MathLearn is a planned Limited Liability Corporation, being formed to acquire a leading edge, tested and proven set of technology for the interactive teaching of math, developed by a company called Cambridge Modeling Corporation (CMC), for use by students and teachers, on the Internet. The CMC content and its innovative interactivity technology has been extensively tested, is highly effective, usable and is ready for packaging, in specific complementary products, from Grade 4 to graduate-level courses. The CMC interactive technology and the mathematical content has been developed by a group of professors. Testing at MIT, Stanford and other universities, as well as at grade schools, has proven to accelerate the understanding of math complexities by both students and teachers. The results have been exceptional. The modules have been shown to strengthen the teacher's own understanding of how to teach these math complexities, as well as benefiting the individual students. The broad array of potential modules using the proven technology can be rapidly developed and packaged in the form of supplements to texts and various other types of teaching materials. These will address the more difficult-to-teach elements of each course. When developed, each module will be placed on MathLearn's server network, for delivery of use, on a worldwide basis. A typical MathLearn course product will consist of approximately one dozen web pages of text and a series of interactive math illustrations. The text can be readily translated and the math requires little adjustment to be suitable for any nation. The number of instructional pages and illustrations will vary by topic and level. Being based upon the Web, each MathLearn module will have a world market. The fee charged for use by a school or an individual student may vary from country to country. However, the incremental income from each country can be achieved at little additional cost to MathLearn. The content can be organized into hour-long courses. A subject course will be composed of several modules that supplement the math texts and other materials being used in a course. A particular course, such as algebra, calculus, physics or statistics, will include several segments, each of which will be offered in remedial, standard, advanced and teacher formats. In all these forms, the content will remain under the control of MathLearn and cannot be copied. The student can use it, at home, on the Internet or from a school LAN, but cannot duplicate it, since the interactivity will be controlled by the MathLearn server network or the networks of MathLearn's publisher partners. The opportunity exists to take a significant share of the world market in on-line teaching of math, go on to other educational subjects and then use the server network and other assets to enter other on-line fields. |
